JOB PURPOSE
To lead the company’s commercial legal function within the oil and gas business, providing strategic legal advice on high-value transactions, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing legal risks, and supporting commercial operations.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide strategic legal and commercial advice to Senior Management and Board on business decisions, investments, and regulatory matters within the oil & gas industry.
- Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of complex commercial agreements including Joint Ventures (JV), Production Sharing Contracts (PSC), EPC, and supply contracts.
- Oversee all legal matters of the organization, acting as the principal legal advisor and safeguarding the company’s interests.
- Develop and implement legal strategies to manage disputes, litigation, and arbitration matters effectively.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and commercial risks across all business operations.
- Ensure full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, licensing requirements, and industry standards.
- Oversee filings of statutory documents, permits, and regulatory submissions in a timely and accurate manner.
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel, regulators, and key stakeholders including joint venture partners.
- Establish and maintain proper legal documentation, contract management systems, and records of all legal proceedings.
- Oversee intellectual property matters, including protection and registration of copyrights and proprietary assets.
QUALIFICATIONS / CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) with admission to the Bar (preferred)
- Minimum 12–15 years of legal experience, preferably within oil & gas, energy, or infrastructure sectors
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
- Strong expertise in commercial contracts, energy law, and cross-border transactions
- Proven experience handling high-value negotiations and complex legal structures (PSC, JV, EPC)
- Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and stakeholder management capabilities
- Experience working with regulators and multinational stakeholders is an advantage
